Can’t Live Without Claire: an advice column for teens

Screenshot_20180313-202732Dear Claire,

Should I get engaged at 17?

I really hope this is a joke, but the answer is no! Definitely not! Approximately 2 percent of high school relationships in America actually last, (Huffington Post), so the chances of you and your partner working out is very slim.  High school is a time for change and discovery. You are still figuring out who you are, and what you want to be. If you do get married, you might realize that you are not the person you thought you were or the person you thought your partner was. If this is your first relationship, you don’t have enough experience to know what you like in a relationship or partner. Being in a high school relationship, you want to figure out what you like. It’s kind of like a practice run for when you get older. You want to be enjoying this person and loving them in the moment, but thinking about a future with them might be a little bit extreme this early. Yes it might be fun to plan a future out and name kids with them, but you can’t take it too seriously because ultimately it probably won’t work out for you two. Sorry ‘bout it.  So before popping the question, consider waiting till adulthood to buy the ring.

Yours truly,

Mrs. Claire Barnes

Dear Claire,

I am a 15 year old girl and I want to cook good food in a short amount time, any recipes?

Hey 15 year old girl. With a busy high school schedule it’s hard to find time to make food. I do in fact have a few recipes that won’t take more than 10 minutes each so you have time to do your homework and get to your extracurriculars.

Ramen:

This is a really fast and easy food to make. Go out and buy packets of ramen (you can go to the dollar tree and get 6 for a dollar). Follow the instructions on the packet to make the noodles and add some veggies you have at home, usually I like to add green beans. If you want, add some sort of protein like tofu or chicken (cook the meat before you put it in) and enjoy.

Avocado toast:

Now before you get all mad and call me basic, avocado toast is freaking good man and so fast to make. All you have to do is mash up some avocados, put a little bit of salt and pepper on it and toast some bread. Put the avocado on it and bon appetit bitch. Also, if you like eggs, cook an egg sunny side up or over easy and put it on top…delicious.

Sandwiches:

I like to make a lot of sandwiches, but here are two of my favorites:

  1. Mozzarella, tomatoes, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and bread and basil if applicable. Cut up your veggies and cheese and put them on one piece of bread, drizzle a little bit of olive oil and balsamic on it. Cut basil into small pieces and put it on top before putting the other piece of bread on top.

  1. Cream cheese tea sandwiches- White bread, cream cheese, mint and cucumber. Cut up cucumber and mint, spread cream cheese onto bread (cut crusts off) and then put on cucumbers and mint.

Hope this helped!

Bon appetit,

Claire
